Living near the coast means literally everything we own that’s left exposed to the elements eventually suffers salt erosion. That includes our windows. When we neglect our windows and don’t perform routine home maintenance, little breaks in the caulk or other minor damage to the unit will allow moisture to begin making its way further and further into the interior of your home. If your windows show signs of damage, replacement windows are worth considering.

Once moisture sets in, mold and wood rot are sure to follow, even worse, they spread. The problem can be hard to detect initially because water may be finding it’s way into your home from the smallest of openings. No matter the size of the opening, once it gains entry to the interior walls of your home, there’s a problem.

Fungi get funky

Exposure to mold is harmful to your health, especially for those who are allergic to it or those with asthma. Inhaling or touching mold spores causes sneezing, runny nose, red eyes, skin rashes, and respiratory issues. Prolonged exposure increases the severity of the symptoms.

Mold lives in dark, damp places and our climate here in Florida provides just the right environment for it to thrive. Any water entering our home travels down the wood framing unbeknownst to us and the mold continues to spread.

Not only that, fungi that cause wood rot takes hold and left unchecked it causes major structural damage to a home.

Future protection

Replacement windows that include vinyl frames can eliminate the worry of moisture ever entering your home by way of your windows. We don’t hire outside contractors to install your windows. Our trained installers make sure the job is done to meet our high standards.

We guarantee it.

In fact, we include installation in your double lifetime guarantee.

We build our windows to last the lifetime of your home so when it comes time to put it on the market one day, your guarantee transfers to the new homeowner. That’s going to be an attractive selling point.

Speaking of protection…

A major reason that Floridians decide to install replacement windows is for the added storm protection that impact windows provide. These amazing windows withstand the impact of storm debris barring the wind from accessing your home.

We understand the outstanding value attached to that fact, we have families too.

Impact windows are the only type of windows that we make.

Once hurricane-force winds gain entry to your home’s interior, the odds that it will sustain catastrophic damage increase dramatically. Impact windows might crack when struck, but they absorb the impact and won’t come apart.

We build Reece Windows & Doors to meet the FBCs (Florida Building Code) strict regulations. They consistently pass required testing.

The tests are rigorous

To rate as hurricane or impact resistant, the entire window unit must remain intact throughout the test cycle.

  • Large missile test—The first test in the cycle involves firing a 9 pound, 6 foot 2×4 from a cannon. It’s aimed to strike the window unit end on.
  • Small missile test—If the window survives the first test, it continues through the cycle. The small missile test consists of firing steel ball bearing, or sometimes gravel of like size and weight, simultaneously from a cannon. They strike the window at speeds that hurl the balls through the air with enough force to cover 80′ per second!
  • Wind and rain resistance—Lastly, the window units undergo tests likened to the winds and rain that a hurricane produces.

Construction that defies destruction

We build our windows using only high-quality materials. We use tempered glass which doesn’t obstruct your crystal clear view, but it’s a little stronger than ordinary glass. Furthermore, the rapid heating and cooling process that the glass undergoes actually changes the molecular structure causing it to break differently. Instead of splintering into shards of all sizes, tempered glass more or less crumbles into tiny rounded spheres.

Under normal circumstances, the crumbling glass would be far safer than splintered shards falling on someone. However, when striking someone or something with hurricane force, they’re going to do some damage.

We’re on it.

We sandwich a sheet of high-tech polymer between the glass panes. The polymer absorbs the impact and because the glass adheres to it, it holds the glass in place.

Our vinyl frames are built to take a beating too. We use a heat-welding process that melds the frame pieces into one. There’s no way they’re coming apart so they strengthen your window even further.

But, wait! There’s more…

The benefits of replacement windows when upgrading to impact windows just keep coming!

  • Guard against break-ins—Would-be intruders will think twice after their attempt to smash the glass in your window to gain easy access to your home gets them nowhere.
  • Energy efficiency—Impact windows provide homeowners with a home that’s more energy-efficient. You’ll see the proof in the savings on your energy bill.
  • Noise reduction—We grow accustomed to the sounds around us, so many homeowners don’t understand the value of noise reduction until they actually experience it for themselves! These windows do a great job of muffling or eliminating outside noises.
  • UV protection—No more sun fade. Ever!
